REMOVAL OF UNWANTED EYEBROW AND EYELASH TATOO USING Q-SWITCHED RUBY LASER


Abstract
By the estimation of archeologists tattoos have existed since prehistorical times. For reasons such as been unnatural, social unacceptable or in medical situations eg - photoallergic re-actions, tattoo removal is necessary.
Traditional surgical methods such as dermabrasion, caustics, excision, skin grafting and more recent tissue expander, all result in scar-ring. Nowadays laser treatments using Ar, Nd : YAG and CO2 Iasers are popular and can be applied safely on the skin.
Clinical results are unsatisfactory because there is some scarring. The recently developed Q-switched ruby laser, can be applied effectivly and safely with no resulting scar. It is especially effective in treatment of cosmetic tattoos of the eyebrow ane eyelash.
Theoretically, the chromophore of the exogenous dark pigments are target for the selective

thermolysis by the Q-switched ruby laser(694. 3nm wavelength and 25nsec pulse duration).. Power densities between 7-8 jowls/cm2 were
found to the most suitable. Previous laser methods for removing unwanted tattoos have yielded generally unacceptable cosmetic results.. An alternative is to target the pigment as a chromophore within the translucent dermis.
This laser has been sucessfully used in the removal of eyebrow and eyelash cosmetic tattoos on 52 oriental(korean).
There were no complications such as hair loss or scarring.
In conclusion, the Q-switched ruby laser is an effective means of treating black cosmetic tattoos of the eyebrow and eyelash.
